In this “local spotlight” we are featuring Massachusetts based Fogbuster Coffee Works (previously Pierce Brothers Coffee). Our visit was not just about tasting exceptional coffee but also about understanding the unique process that makes Fogbuster’s brews so distinct.


Discovering the Art of Air Roasting

The cornerstone of Fogbuster Coffee Works uniqueness lies in their air roasting process. Unlike traditional drum roasting, which uses a metal drum to heat the beans, air roasting suspends the beans on a bed of hot air, allowing them to roast evenly. This method prevents the scorching and charring that can occur with drum roasting, resulting in a smoother, more consistent flavor profile.

As we toured the roasting facility, we were captivated by the precision and care that goes into each batch. The air roasting technique not only enhances the natural flavors of the coffee but also ensures a cleaner, less acidic, and more consistent taste—qualities that set Fogbuster Coffee Works apart from the competition.

From the selection of the beans to the roasting process, every step is meticulously monitored to ensure that the final product is nothing short of exceptional. Meeting the Founders

We spent the majority of the day with Director of Marketing Ben, CEO Paco, and Head Roaster Jacob- but also had the privilege of meeting the Pierce Brothers (founders of Fogbuster Coffee Works), whose passion for coffee is palpable. Their journey started with a simple goal: to create a coffee brand that not only delivers outstanding taste but also makes a positive impact on the community and the environment.

They are heavily involved in developing new products, ensuring their retailers have not only the best coffee, but also the best brewing equipment, and the freshest coffee possible (roasting the coffee to order in most cases). They have surrounded themselves with a team that is just as passionate as they are; and that passion has led to new opportunities including a collaboration with the upcoming Titanic Boston exhibit and winner of Food and Beverage Magazine’s 2024 Editor’s Top Pick award.


A Partnership Rooted in Shared Values

The visit to Fogbuster Coffee Works was more than just a learning experience; it was a celebration of shared values between two companies committed to excellence. The visit helped reinforced the importance of not just selling a product but telling the story behind it—one that is rich in passion, dedication, and a commitment to making the world a better place, one cup of coffee at a time.
